| Bulgarian distro offers Live CD greatest hits |
Apr. 14, 2009
A Bulgarian open source project has released a Live CD compilation of five popular boot-and-run Linux distributions. Just released in version 3.0, "Ultilex" can be booted from CD/DVD and USB flash devices, and offers Slax, Puppy Linux, Clonezilla, Parted Magic, and the System Rescue CD, says the Ultilex project.
Ivan Davidov of Sofia, Bulgaria, developed Ultilex after installing several coexisting distributions on a single Ext3 partition, he said. He searched the web to find out if anyone had developed a disc with several Live CD Linux distributions coexisting on the same media, and when he couldn't find one, he decided to develop one himself.
Version 3.0 updated several of the included distros and replaced "Finnix" and "Damn Small Linux" with "Parted Magic" and "Clonezilla," says Davidov. The new version includes:The 696MB Ultilex is said to both install from a USB flash device and allow users to save changes they've made during the live session. Users can modify files and even install or remove modules, and all the changes will be saved to the USB flash drive, says Davidov.
Availability
Ultilex 3.0 should be available for free download, here.
